The Samoa government has approved a proposal by the Pacific Oil Company
to produce coconut oil fuel as a substitute for diesel in the country.

The Pacific Oil company is according to a government statement a
subsidiary of the only company supplying fuel in the country, the
Petroleum Products Supplies or PPS.

The General Manager of PPS and Pacific Oil Company, Samau Etuale Sefo,
has confirmed the new operation will not only help to ease the
continuing increase of diesel oil prices but to encourage local coconut
farmers to grow more coconut trees.

Meanwhile a production plant he says is under construction at Nu'u,
opposite the agricultural research center, will start production in April.
